One of the keys to a happy life is understanding and accepting who you are, and learning to create the life you love based on that understanding. As we’ve talked about many times on this podcast, introverts have an enormous capacity for success when they recognize and strengthen their best traits. My guest today is a perfect example of what can manifest when an introverted heart and mind … [Read more...]
Art of Relationship with Sarah Anma
When we spend most of our days with our colleagues, coworkers and computers, it’s easy to understand how our personal relationships can take a back seat. If we're in a committed relationship, we can grow apart from the people we love most because we’ve not made it a priority to focus on them in a loving, intentional way. And what if we’re single? In that case, we want to attract that ideal … [Read more...]
Love v. Fear: Their Day In Court
Clerk: In the Matter of Love V. Fear (Defendant), I hereby call this session to order. (Fear is ready to take the stand in its defense. The clerk swears in the defendant. Love is relaxed but alert.) Clerk: Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Fear: Ummm... well... I'm not sure I can do that. (The courtroom stirs. Jurors shift in their seats and look with … [Read more...]
Now You See Me, Now You Don’t
If you've ever put something new out into the world - something creative or entrepreneurial, for instance - you can probably identify with the words of one of my fabulously talented friends: "I'm afraid of being seen. I'm also afraid of not being seen." How can those two feelings coexist? For many, there's a part of us that wants to perform. We want to be noticed, acknowledged and applauded. Do … [Read more...]
Hi Honey, I’m Home!
On the front porch of our house, there's a welcome mat that I cross every time I come and go. It's a great spot to wipe the wet Pacific Northwest weather off the bottom of my shoes before coming back inside. Other than that, I rarely notice it. A client session yesterday - and the memory of a great article written by creative self-development coach Jamie Ridler - brought up the idea of a welcome … [Read more...]

Love Is All You Need
It will be difficult. It's going to be risky. There will be family drama. I can't afford it. Do any of these statements sound familiar? I know they're familiar to me! These are just a few of the 18 excuses Wayne Dyer outlines in his recent book, Excuses Begone!. Each excuse keeps us from taking action and pushing through fear, uncertainty and doubt. We’ve all probably used each of the excuses … [Read more...]
Resistance Is Futile
Do you ever "push" when the door says "pull"? A few weeks ago, a client made the very astute observation that when it came to finding his calling in life, it felt like he'd been pushing on the door that said "pull." How often have we done that ourselves? We encounter a door and we push and push, wondering why it won't open. We decide it's the door's fault and feel momentarily frustrated before … [Read more...]
Living Transformation
It's been a challenging week. Last Monday, I received news from my vet that my 15-year-old cat, Fiona, was not going to live forever. On Tuesday, blood test results came back. It wasn't good. Her kidneys were kaput. He was forecasting that without intervention, she would live a month, at most. A transformation took place within me: I started to see Fiona as a cat that was dying, instead of one … [Read more...]
An Attitude of Gratitude
In the 2001 movie "America's Sweethearts," Eddie (John Cusak) spends some time in a wellness center, recovering from the very public breakup of his celebrity marriage. Part of his program includes expressing gratitude: "I'm grateful for the earth... I'm grateful for the stars and the sky..." While the movie portrays his chanting of gratitude as a point of comic relief, there's truth to the … [Read more...]
