How to Know When Two Heads Would Be Better Than One

March 27, 2012 by Beth Buelow 8 Comments

"If you want it done right, do it yourself." * The words of an introvert, me thinks! I lived by these words for many years, embracing them wholeheartedly because they gave me permission to fly solo. A co-pilot tended to muck up the works. There was always the possibility of communication challenges, conflicting agendas, and unexpected demands on my precious time and energy. Introverts and … [Read more...]

There IS an “I” in Team: Introverts, Creativity & “The New Groupthink”

January 23, 2012 by Beth Buelow 8 Comments

The topic of introversion is enjoying some major buzz, and can I just say, it's about time? ;-) Thanks to Susan Cain and her newly released book, "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking," folks are reading about introverts in People magazine, The New York Times and O, The Oprah Magazine, among other places. One of the most interesting conversations is happening around … [Read more...]

Confessions of an Indulgent Introvert

January 8, 2012 by Beth Buelow 16 Comments

In November 2010, I wrote a prescient blog post entitled, "The Dangers of Being Home Alone."  My main point was that while I was working from home and technically "alone," I was rarely alone with my thoughts because I was almost never unplugged, never disconnected. Part of me also felt that working from home alone was not the most productive place to be. However, my introvert self LOVED it … [Read more...]

Tabatha Takes Over The Introvert Entrepreneur

December 27, 2011 by Beth Buelow 7 Comments

She's bitchy, ballsy and brash. She's Tabatha, and she's taking over. I might be a little late to the party, but I've just discovered "Tabatha's Salon Takeover" (to be relaunched on Jan 10 as "Tabatha Takes Over"), and I'm hooked. Tabatha Coffey is almost the complete opposite of me in every respect (although, when I was around 7 or 8, I had worked out a basic business plan and was … [Read more...]

Life Lessons from the Lake

December 14, 2011 by Beth Buelow 2 Comments

There's a phenomenon that happens with many fresh water lakes a few times a year called "lake turnover." Without getting into the details (you can read one of the more simple explanations I found here), it's a process that happens when the surface water reaches a certain temperature (39.2 degrees F to be exact) and becomes denser and heavier than the water under it. That top layer sinks and … [Read more...]

Can We Stop with the “Introvert=Shy” Already!?

November 22, 2011 by Beth Buelow 27 Comments

Oh dear, did that headline sound exasperated? I think it did. Because I am. Over the past 18 months, I've been especially in tune with articles and posts that mention introversion. And so often, there is a collapsing of the definitions of introvert and shy. The article will start out OK, positing that introverts can be leaders, or business owners, or sales people. Then they will highlight a … [Read more...]

The Flaw with Being “Fearless”

October 31, 2011 by Beth Buelow 10 Comments

What do I need most to succeed in business? Be fearless! What do I do when doubts creep in? Be fearless! How do I get over my fears? Be fearless! Last week, I attended an outstanding Puget Sound Business Journal "Grow Your Business" Expo. The day was full of exhibitors and presenters, all focused on providing resources and strategies to entrepreneurs. A common theme of many of the speakers? … [Read more...]
