Ep111 Show Notes: How to Break Free When You’ve Gone Aground
About This Episode
I’ve been feeling a bit stuck lately, mostly in business, but a little in life. My entire existence during 2014 and 2015 was geared towards one thing: the publication process of my book, “The Introvert Entrepreneur.” Everything was focused on the launch date of Nov 3, 2015. And now that the date has come and gone, and we’re almost 4 months on the other side of it, I find myself feeling a bit rudderless. It’s that feeling of being stuck that I explore in this episode, first by telling you about how I gained clarity about what was going on, and then by sharing eight simple ways for any of us to get unstuck.

The star of this episode: “Sapphire,” a 1964 25′ Columbia sailboat, before and after restoration
Key Episode Points
- The importance of not working when others aren’t working
- How figuring out the perfect metaphor started the process of getting unstuck
- What sailing and being an entrepreneur have in common
- Wisdom from Mark Twain, Warren Buffet and St. Francis of Assisi
- Eight ways to get your momentum back, including how to challenge your fear-based thoughts and leverage your comfort zone
Quotes Mentioned in the Show
Only two sailors, in my experience, never ran aground. One never left port and the other was an atrocious liar. -Don Bamford
Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. -St. Francis of Assisi
The goal is not to sail the boat, but rather to help the boat sail herself. –John Rousmaniere
Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks. -Warren Buffett
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain

Oh my goodness – what an awesome episode!!! I’ve JUST been coming out of an ‘aground’ piece in my business and life. I could so identify with your beautiful message. Thank you for the wonderful inspiration, Beth. I have such deep compassion for this stuck place, having been there numerous times myself too. I wish you something awesome after the stuckness lifts.
Hi Beth — I’ve only been listening to your podcasts for a short time but felt compelled to write in about this particular one since it is *so exactly* what I’ve been needing to hear.
